Well now, things are slowly escalating.

Yeah, Chui, nothing beats a lovely stroll on a chilly, foggy African morning. Especially if you're surrounded by unfriendly cape buffaloes.

Alsoooo next page is coming on thursday instead of wednesday, cause I won't be there on the 6th ;)

Enjoy!

I have always loved your artwork, but when it came to this page, I finally decided to give a critique. I believe that my admiration for you would be supported by this critique.

Vision-
You have definitely shown a great amount of improvement when it comes to portraying a certain atmosphere realistically and yet still portray your own cartoony style. This page is a wonderful example of this. The wet, muddy, dirty, mucky surroundings are clear to the eye and not just simply smeared with brown (what most less experienced artists tend to do). You've highlighted certain areas to emphasize that they are wet, but very subtly (another common mistake is highlighting way too much). I love how the colors are faded but not too gray. You've definitely mastered the foggy atmosphere. I love the sinking paw prints in the mud and the texture you've given the mud.
Another thing I love- the wet fur. I see some of Chui's paw is less smooth, rigid and more furry, as to emphasize clumped fur. Also, the African bison have the same effect on their chins and necks, and I love it. Many people just like to draw a lot of water droplets and unnecessary blue, but I appreciate your focus on actual fur behavior. (again, love the mud ♥)

Originality-
I've been following you for a long time now, and I know it's taken a long time for your current style to develop. Also, the storyline of Africa isn't the same, generic wild animal recluse story that I've seen hundreds of in my feed. I have become extremely bored with the same cat or dog comics that artists only create because they like to draw cats and dogs. I love the effort that you put into all of your comics and stories, and I really appreciate the effort you take into making them original and interesting. As a lover of film and writing, I'm very very very critical of plots, storylines, and writing. Your comics are very entertaining to read and are always making me come back for more. Well done. (you're pretty much the only reason I go on deviantart anymore).

Technique-
Your technique compliments your originality. Colored pencils are hard to get the desired look from. Plus, they take time. Every time you publish a piece of artwork, I'm always amazed. Again, when you look back at your earlier comics, you can see just how much you've improved with pencils. I love it! I also appreciate your courtesy to add the page number to the bottom. Not a lot of people do that, even though you'd think they would!

Impact-
You have a way with making sure the comic doesn't dullen the plotline. Once you have a good story, it's critical to make sure that readers will receive the anticipated reaction to the comic. I know you must be constantly on your toes to be sure readers are satisfied. This page in particular had no significant impact on me as the reader, but it is nevertheless an important page and I wouldn't want it removed from the comic as a whole. Important little details are important to make sure the plot doesn't move too fast. Africa is very well-paced and I've never gotten bored with it. There are comics made by really good artists that I follow that feature characters that have been having a single conversation in one sitting that lasts over a span of 10+ pages (publishing only one page a month, too!). Again, I really love your pacing on this comic. Keep up the good work!
