Africaaaaa! We finally advance in the story, and the view shifts for a short while, from our leopards to the herd of zebras.
I wanted to give an insight on their relationship, and I thought now would be as good a time as ever.

First and foremost, I would like to thank :iconewebster123: and :iconaspi-galou: for their precious tips on equine anatomy! I realized I was making a bunch of mistakes with how my zebras looked, so I practiced a bit with their help. Hopefully now they look better! :D

So we get to know that Hazina, the female zebra, is mates with Abasi, the head stallion. Actually, pretty much all the females in the herd are his mates. This is typical of zebra "society", where dominant stallions have a harem of females and their foals. As such, only the head stallion is allowed to mate. Kafil is a much younger stallion than Abasi, and his role in the herd is to watch out for predators. He's not that good at it, but on the other hand, he's awesome at flirting XD
He really likes Hazina, buuuuuuut Hazina doesn't like him. Imagine having a creepy stalker around you all day XD
Anyway, Abasi doesn't seem to like him very much either, and the feeling seems to be reciprocal O.O

I hope you enjoy this page!

Also, because two wednesdays from here it will be December 24th, I probably won't be there on that day. So, the next Africa page will come out one day earlier, on December 23rd!

Hi folks!
Here I am with yet another critique for a new page of Africa, the brilliant comic created by Arven! ^^

This page 43 offers us a little more insight on the zebra herd and the relationships between the members ofit we knew before...I will as always analyze this page frame by frame...shall we?

First frame: This page opens up with a beautiful pale, blue skied scene, where we see Africa in the near distance, conducting her cubs somewhere. A zebra chews some rass on a first shot, that's Hazina, the female we saw some pages before...and some steps afar is Kafil, the tempestive young male...he warns Africa's nearness, though Hazina seems tired of his self-pride as her expression and words indicate...

Second frame, and Kafil lauches himself over to Hazina, butting her headand cçheeks in a fake show of strength and dominance, along with the offer to "protect her" from Africa... Again, Hazina's face says a lot...she is definitely not interessed. There is even direct rejection in her face and tense pose as Kafil bothers her.

Third frame, and here is where Kafil will have to back off. We see from the spot where another zebra is standing, the action between the former two: Hazina lays back, scattering off from Kafil's advances. Her face shows a deep disgust. Kafil is still mArching forth though a voice stops him. It comes from "our" zebra, the one we're using as a point of view in this frame...

Fourth frame: And it is Abasi! The dominant male of the herd!...His seriousness leaves nothing to imagination here: you are a sentinel, kid, and if you don't stop bothering my mate and go do your business, I'll get you.
Excellent work on the mad eyes and the frown of this zebra's face! The strong shadowing makes him look even more imponent!

Fifth frame, and last: Abasi and Hazina join heads as she seems relieved to have him close...and Kafil redraws with a killing look on his eyes...he's both humiliated and annoyed...Abasi's bright stare is intimidating and very well achieved!

I cannot but wonder what will become of this next...perhaps Kafil will plan to ovethrow Abasi and become the leader of the herd?...Perhaps Hazina would have to yield to him if it were so?...I'm starting to worry about the safety of that dominant male somehow!...

I will not miss the next brilliant chapter of this series! ^^
