Africaaaaa!
And we're back, with page 35 Introducing three brand new characters!
Abasi, Kafil and Hazina, three Grant's zebras.
Abasi is the elder stallion, while Kafil is a younger stallion, responsible for protecting the herd. Hazina is a young adult mare, about Paa's age.
Wow, drawing them together was tough. ALL THOSE STRIPES.
But I quite love these three characters, especially Kafil. I don't know, there's something about his eyes that makes him so fun to draw!
Anyway, in this page, we are also introduced to Paa's philosophy: Carpe diem, in all its sheer negative side. Now, Carpe diem isn't very negative per se, but the way Paa interprets it, it kinda is. Paa is a very nervous, impatient gazelle. He is scared of tomorrow, and thinks that it's better to seize an opportunity while he still has it. He's very distant from the philosophy of his mother, but very close in a way
Anywho, enough talking.
Abasi mentioned "that darn cat". Which has me wonder, how is Africa doing?
The answer soon!
I want to improve, I greatly appreciate feedback and constructive criticism regarding anatomy, page flow and overall composition. Thank you!

Africa's back with a new page!
A beautiful new one. Though our dear leopard may not be seen yet...
This page acts, as I see it, in a "folder" way through which we get to meet the zebras who are protecting our old dear Nadira, the elder -now blinded by age- gazelle, and her son Paa.
Let's disect the page! ^^
The first frame gives us a view of the face of Paa, while he wonders about his future concerning females...(AH! YOUNG LOVE...) The way he wrinkles his snout and tilts his eyebrows is hillarious, and gives the frame a lighter, more loose feel, after all the tension there was in the previous pages. A blow of cool breeze.
The second pannel has a sight of old Nadira resting on the grass while paa stands close, turning to a source of sound. There are voices addressing him and his mother. Who would it be?
The colors and shading are brilliant here, and the zebra herd in the near distance gives a beautiful horizon where to set our eyes in! The way in which their cold colors contrast to the gazelles' warm tones is great to look at, too!
Third pannel, three zebras: Abazi, Khafil and Hazina. From first to last, an elder male, a young male, and a wise adult female. I find it beautiful how the sharp, angular lines in Abazi contrast with the smoothly-angular features of Khafil...and even more to Hazina's round, curvy shapes! Their eyes also tell us a lot about their personalities!- That scratch in Abazi's shoulder...I wonder...
Fourth pannel has an interesting view of Khafil and Hazina closely together, where their feature differences emphathize even more. I like the composition here, it all looks very clean and harmonic!
Fifth and last pannel makes us wonder: Is the "darn cat" Abazi is talking about Africa?...Or are we just assuming it's her because she's our protagonist?...Might it be Giza, or the lone male leopard instead?...
Again, the sharp angularity of Abazi's features is very well accomplished, and conveys us of a strong, hardship-enduring old male.
A charming new adding to the world of Africa!
I'll be waiting with anxiety for the next page!
