Happy new year! Let's start off on a positive note with Africa!

...Uhm, kind of.

Pages without text are always my favourite! Through them, I get to tell a story in the rawest way possible: through actions, expressions, and angles.
I hope I conveyed that here!

Binti, you may wanna think before you leap.

(This is my second critique so please be gentle, lol)

I LOVE: the style you draw and color the pages and especially i love the scenery and the perspectives you create for the readers! You flush out the colors well for different scenarios, for example when she is in the cave, her colors are darker like they should be. This is so far been my favorite for the originality as i don't think i have ever seen such a story or an concept that follows these animals in a realistic kind of way! The impact of every page is surprising and intense and makes the readers even more curious as to what happens next, so id say well done on that apartment. Technique you use to deliver the story is great and the way you draw is also awesome. The only minor fault i see is that you probably have to do these in a hurry or in a short timetable, so you might not have enough time to check for faults and such. Still its minor so i don't mind at all as i have come to love this comic!

I HATE: when people do jumps in the story (I love to follow the characters exploring...), but so far you have done them only in a minor way and most of the time the story follows them well.
What do you think?

The tracks outside the den have claw indentations. It's probably some kind of canine, like jackals. Though they could be cheetah cubs, because they don't have retractable claws either.

Lion cubs, meerkats, they could be anything.
Well, except for kangaroos, echidnas, koalas, platypi and dingos coz they only live in Australia...

Yeah, the hidding place she chose is already occupied. :D (Big Grin)

Was just thinking.  Leopards can out run most animals for a short term so what ever is in the hole Binti has a chance if the adult lions are far enough away.  Also Africa can outleap those lions and run away also.  Most leopards should be able to leap far enough, more so than lions.  Hopefully all the family will get away ok.  Great drawing and series.

Poor Binti :( Run baby!
Am I the only one to think that theses creatures in the dark are aardvarks? x) But I don’t think the footprints correspond…
AstarGoldenwing Featured By Owner Jan 4, 2018
Oh, I was so worried as I followed Binti's flight that I didn't notice the paw prints on the ground until someone in the comments pointed that out. On the bright side, by the way the eyes in the last panels positioned, it appears that the hole's inhabitants may be just as scared of Binti as she is... :plotting:

Tephra76 Featured By Owner Jan 3, 2018  Hobbyist General Artist
I see nail indentations with those prints, so it's likely not feline.

Hyena cubs?

Redfeatherisboss123 Featured By Owner Jan 3, 2018  Hobbyist General Artist
tf? Ok, last time i checked, warthogs didn't live in holes and they DEFINITELY don't have paws, smh, really, some people.
Claudan Featured By Owner Edited Jan 4, 2018  Hobbyist Traditional Artist
No need to be rude, dear. A lot of people didn't notice the pawprints. I didn't until I skimmed the comments and saw someone else mentioning the same thing.

Claudan Featured By Owner Jan 13, 2018  Hobbyist Traditional Artist
Bit late for me to respond to you now because college life is brutal, but for future reference, if you're posting in a public forum such as a comment thread on dA, it becomes anyone's business, so it's best that you try to remain as polite as possible.
Saying things like "didn't ask your opinion" or generally just talking down to people is... not going to earn you any favor. Just try being nicer in the future, please.
Redfeatherisboss123 Featured By Owner Jan 13, 2018  Hobbyist General Artist
It's fine. Also, I get what you're saying but if you're in a public place, say, like a bus stop, and someone's arguing, it's not your place to intrude on their fight. Same goes for here. Besides, *shrugs* if you wanna be bothered about me saying 'I didn't want your opinion.' then thats not my problem. How else did you want me to say it? I wouldn't want people sugar-coating their words towards me, so I don't beat around the bush with others. I'm blunt and if one can't deal with that then they seriously have to reconsider being here, because there are much worse people on here. But again, thank you for not coming in here throwing punches and dropping insults like they're hot.
Claudan Featured By Owner Jan 13, 2018  Hobbyist Traditional Artist
Most grown adults don't have arguments in public places. If they do, the argument becomes anyone's business, because the words being exchanged are out in the open, where anyone can hear and intervene - especially when someone is being nasty and unreasonable. So I'm sorry, but it is my place.
Besides, -shrugs- you can be blunt without being nasty or "sugar-coating," doll. And if someone says you're being nasty, you don't come up with some bullshit excuse and try to say "Oh, but I'm not the worst person here, so maybe you're the problem." You say "I'm sorry," accept that you've done something to upset someone, and. That. Is. It. No arguing. No defending yourself. Just apologize and move on, even if you think you're in the right.
Anyways, I'm done with you and I'm sure this is annoying Arven, so I'm logging off. Have a nice night, sweetheart. Or day. Which ever it is.
babybrass Featured By Owner Jan 3, 2018  Student Digital Artist
Jesus, I didn't know it was cool now to get rude because someone doesn't know something or asks a question. For the record, warthogs do use abandoned aardvark burrows or other burrow-shaped formations as homes. Here's a link from the San Diego zoo talking about it:… and there are plenty of other images and mentions of warthog burrows. As for the prints, yeah, it may be completely clear to you that those aren't hoof prints (given different screen settings and how hard you're looking at the picture, it may not be clear to everyone) or that warthogs don't have four toes (the only thing I've heard hog feet called is trotters. If I didn't specifically know what they looked like, idk what the fuck a "trotter" would look like") but it's not the same for everyone. Don't be a jackass, my dude.
Redfeatherisboss123 Featured By Owner Edited Jan 3, 2018  Hobbyist General Artist
But seeing as warthogs are just under the height of a humans waist those would have to be pretty small hogs because in panel 3 the hole is shown to be quite small and in panel 4, Binti is very clearly in a crouch, crawling into the hole. You can't use the excuse of them being baby warthogs because the adults would most probably not leave their young alone, what with lions and such like around. Plus, it says so here -… that they shelter in burrows at night. Besides one would have to be pretty thick to think that those are hoof prints.

Sure, I may have been rude, but I implore people to think before they comment.
Vritra-Rising Featured By Owner Edited Jan 3, 2018
Listen, kid, just because your "enlightened" and obviously can tell the contortions of a stylized animal in a dark hole, that doesn't give you the right to be rude, inconsiderate, and 'high and mighty.' Unless you're worked with African animals directly, then you have no right to pretend to have any knowledge about it. I admit, I don't watch documentaries about Africa or warthogs or whatever the hell you think it is – maybe you do, which doesn't matter to me. You don't implore people to think before they comment, you hunt down anyone you perceive as less intelligent than you are and you try to make yourself feel better by belittling them. You're a bully, and you feel better about yourself by hurting others. You could have kindly and respectfully informed me that that was unlikely and pointed out evidence to support your claim, but instead you decide to reveal your own inability to connect with other people with common decency. I hope you were raised better than that and that this is simply the fact that you can comment anonymously, which gives you the confidence to heckle other people for not knowing about African animals when they live on the other side of the world, eh? Don't bother commenting back. I'll be an adult and let you indulge in your abominable behavior. I didn't ask your opinion, and if you want me to consider it as legitimate, then you should have posted a comment not directed at insulting others, in the comment's section like an adult.
