Big, Bad and Red (Speedpaint Video) by ARVEN92 Big, Bad and Red (Speedpaint Video) by ARVEN92

Watch me speedpaint this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=LwtXug…

Ayyyy I'm feeling good :D
Why, you ask? Because on December 13th, I officially passed all my exams! I'm out of university and actively looking for a job right now. Finally! The last stretch after graduation destroyed me.

I'm glad I finally have some time to dedicate to you guys. Hopefully I'll be a lot more active during the holidays. And as a start, I'll be working on all the due artworks, first of all, the contest prizes! Secondly, I may or may not be organizing a giant celebratory stream stometime soon... we'll see :D And last but not least, it's time for some birthday gifts! Starting off with the awesome :iconkayfedewa:, whose comic was the reason why I joined Deviantart eight years ago :D You can imagine the joy when I found out she decided to reboot The Blackblood Alliance!

Bloodspill will probably always be my favourite because she's grumpy and badass, and because she incarnates the ideal of the perfect raging sprklewuff <3 Hence why I chose a snarly, energetic pose for the miss. I really hope you like this!

P.S: Can you please be so kind to comment on my artwork(s), please. Pray Weep Gator

This is really great! :) It's always interesting to watch you drawing. :)

And it brings back memories: When I first stumbled upon DeviantArt years ago, I spent whole nights reading the wolf comics I found there. The Blackblood Alliance was one of these I liked most, and I was somehow sad that it was (like some other good comics) never finished.

Some years have passed since then, my life changed more I would have expected and I forgot about this. But it's interesting to see that there is a reboot now and I'm excited to see how it will develop.

However, Bloodspill was one of my favorite characters of The Blackblood Alliance back then, and somehow I still want to hug her ... ;)

Aww thank you so much!

And that's very similar to my experience! BBA is what made me join DeviantART back in 2008, and I was so happy when I found out they were rebooting it!
Ahahhaah XD

Maybe she wouldn't be that grumpy if she was hugged more often? It would be at least worth a try, wouln't it? ;)

Thank you :D
I actually cut away the background in Photoshop, since most of the time the white paper gets quite dirty and looks ugly XD
I've read that you use the lasso tool, and man that's so hard to do ;;
If your program has access to the Magic Wand tool, you should definitely try that one. It only selects areas confined within (or out of) certain boundaries, such as a lineart for example. It allows me to easily and quickly select all around my characters and cut the background out :)

if you haven't tried yet, you can use layer mask and the "refine edges" option when using lasso, magnetic lasso or the pen which select things too ^^ it can give stunning effect. I personnaly like the power of layer mask, you can do so much with them.

Figured it was something like that. I was just curious if there was a more efficient way to do it than what I do for stuff like this (I use the lasso tool to cut out the background, but it slow and hard to get a smooth image outline) or if there was a technique I could use to help make it cleaner.

don't know if you'll get notify as I anwser to Arven's reply but just in case I'll repeat what I said to her "if you haven't tried yet, you can use layer mask and the "refine edges" option when using lasso, magnetic lasso or the pen which select things too ^^ it can give stunning effect. I personnaly like the power of layer mask, you can do so much with them."

I don't often use the magic wand as my linearts aren't perfecly closed and photoshop is soooooo annoying with that =[]= .... some others softwares such as manga studio have a tolerance to wholes, but as far as I know photoshop doesn't (or if it does it will be nice to tell me how I can enable this and on which version of the softare it's available) I generaly use the magnetic lasso, it's less long than using the "normal" lasso and then I refine manually the selection using shift or alt while using the lasso (make sure if you used the magnetic lasso to change to the classical lasso to refine, it's easier that way in my humble opinion) or using the refine edge option OR you can create a rough selection, than create a layer mask, on the layer mask you simply use your brush tool with black or white to decide what must be hidden or shown on your picture ^^ the good thing with layer mask is that you can always edit them or disable them, your original picture is never lost. If you just delete the things like that, it's lost for good. for lineart it's not a big deal, but if you want to do photomanipulation, you may want to keep your original picture clean ^^

Well good thing I don't use photoshop. xD

Thanks for the advice. I've tried it out and, the magic wand tool works pretty well on autodesk sketchbook (although I had to spend a lot of time playing with tolerance) although if I want to try out photoshop or try photomanipulation, I'll bee keeping your words of wisdom in mind.

Well there was probably some editing involved. A white sheet of paper was used for this and with editing, they probably washed out the background to make it easier for the color selector or even the wand tool. Just a thought; I've never even tried anything like this before lol.
