YESSSSS.

You have no idea how long I've waited to post this page. I've had it done for a while now, and I LOVED working on it^^
Realistic backgrounds are great fun! Plus, I really, really enjoyed myself while drawing the last two panels, especially panel 3 :) It's my favourite from this page!

So, where to begin. The butterflies lead us to a pair of fallen trees in Lerai Forest. In the crevice fotmed by these trees sleeps an elusive, dark creature: a melanistic leopard, or black panther.

Some people think the "black panthers" are a species on their own, but this is not correct. They are actually jaguars, or leopards in this case, with a mutation in a gene coding for melanin, a protein responsible for skin colour. Particularly, in these specimens, the quantity of melanin in the skin increases, making skin surface darker and darker in colour, up to resembling black, hence the name "black panther". However, if you look at their fur very closely, or under a source of light, you can see that beneath the black fur, the skin still features the classical rosettes of leopards and jaguars.

Melanin is the same protein responsible for the "tan" colour we get when we go to the beach. It's a way the body has to protect itself from the sunrays, by forming a "shield" on our skin against the dangerous UV emissions.

But enough science for today :D

Back to the page^^

I purposedly didn't add any written parts or sound effects in this page, to enhance the sense of silence and quietness.
When re-watching the finished page, in panel 4, I got the impulse of having to move slowly and quietly in order not to disturb the nursing cub :D Didn't you have this feeling too?

Also, cookie to who spotted the cub in panel 3 at a first glance! :D

I really hope you like this page^^

:0 I'm re-reading this comic, and I'm just realising now that Africa's mom has the same cheek floofs as a different character who happens to be a relitive. . . (I don't wanna give spoilers lol)
