How I draw rain traditionally: www.youtube.com/watch?v=_WMLQ5…

Scene change! We hadn't seen how the zebras were faring in a while.

Abasi doesn't look particularly happy with how Kafil behaved a couple pages ago, which ultimately led to Paa losing his horn.
There has never been much friendship between Abasi and Kafil, but this just might be the straw that broke the camel's back. Or the zebra's, whichever one you prefer.

Also, it's raining! Yeeee, back to traditional rain effects we go!
I must say I'm delighted with how it came out!
So much so that I made a small video tutorial/walkthrough thingy where I explain my process!
Feel free to check it out if you want to reproduce this effect :)

Enjoy!

Love what you've done here. Bibi may have escaped with her life (only because Chui is letting her live... for now, I suppose), but this is a sad moment for everyone. The Queen has been driven from her land. Even the sky is saddened by this turn of events, hence the rain.

And now, we (along with the caracal) hear what the kingdom has to say about it. Of course, they don't know why Africa did what she did. All they know is what she did to the gazelle. And the look on the Gazelle's mother - I am sorry, their names have escaped me right now!. She had high hopes for Africa, and now this!

It would be interesting to see how they would react if Africa decided to return. It would be even more interesting to see how they would react to finding out the entire truth about Chui's contest.

Another great masterpiece! Keep on drawing!

First off, lovely page and awesome art as usual, the panels flow well and it reads really clearly and easily.

My main issue with this page is that it's a little ambiguous how much time has passed between this one and page 100 and how far away from page 100's location we currently are. Assuming you intended for a longer period of time to have passed between the pages I think a 'fade from black' panel series similar to page 65 and various Chakra pages would be a good indication of this even if it were vertical panels in the same row as the first three panels and those panels were slightly thinner. I'm not sure of a solution for a short time passage without radically changing the layout and making the page(s) drag out or become overloaded with panels.

Regarding panel composition, particularly speech bubble placement, I think you've done a really good job. I especially like panel 3 in which Bibi (and her great expression) is the primary focus before the speech bubble. In the same vein, I like how you've been depicting 'distant' speech. The 4th panel, despite it's comparatively large amount of speech, is really well composed: it never feels like the speech is 'overpowering' the art and I actually think the speech bubbles in combination with the positioning of the characters helps lead the eye around the panel without any of the details being missed. The only change I'd make to the 4th panel is putting a bit more space between Kafil's head and the third of his bubbles. Abasi's speech bubble in the 5th panel feels very 'uncanny valley' to me: it almost makes a tangent with the panel's border and I also think it could do with being slightly higher in the panel. I like how in the last panel the eye is lead diagonally across the panel from the speech bubbles, through the fighting zebras to a concerned Nadira while still allowing enough space for the eye to linger and take in the rest of the panel's details.

Art-wise specifically, your control of atmosphere and temperature is superb and the way you've drawn the rain is seriously amazing! I'm not well-versed in anatomy, especially ungulates, so I can't comment much on that but your characters do feel very real and capable of movement. Your attention to details, especially the grass, is great too.

Story-wise, I've been loving how you've been showing the effects of events from the perspectives of the different characters and I like how it's visually obvious these characters are still stressed/discontented by Africa's attack and that Kafil is getting some backlash for his earlier ignorance that allowed Africa to do what she did. So far it feels like you aren't just introducing characters for a certain purpose then throwing them away once they've filled their bare-minimum quota and even the more minor characters seem to have their own personalities and motives as well as, I'm not sure if putting it this way will make sense, Africa feels 'real' and almost documentary-like in it showing all of these different species as interacting characters. I honestly think you're handling the larger cast of Africa better than that of Chakra and that Africa has the strongest story of the two. Keep up the great work! :)

I watched the video and I simply have to ask - what brand of paper do you use? It's awesome how many layers of color pencils it can hold and they still are good visible. Smoothing must be way easier when you can work with that many layers :)

Thanks so much! I actually use a really cheap, light printer paper, only 80gsm in weight (the type usually employed in offices).
Despite what it sounds like, it's an incredibly sturdy paper and can withstand 5-6 layers of pencil :D

Almost all my sketches are on paper like this xD
May I be curious and ask about the brand? Because obviously not all papers for printers are suitable for drawing - almost all for digital printing (such as glossy for laser print or coated papers for high quality inkjet print) are really bad for drawing - only ball point pen is good :D

The brand I'm using right now is called Rey Office Document: www.google.it/search?q=rey+off…:
Though I have used various ones during the years, all with fairly similar results :)

Wait, so you now can't view the comic unless you have a Patreon account??? But I don't have one, and I don't wish to make one, either, since I'll probably rarely use it. :(

Oh, I seriously thought that Bibi left the story for good after her role was played, but following her 'escape' makes for a nice transition between the previous scene and the return to zebras. ;) I like how you conveyed that sense of utter panic through the zebras' body language, but my favourite part is Nadira's face in the last panel, so sorrowful and sad. Not only her son was injured, but now her protectors turned on each other...

No longer in danger? Seems Africa's been busy while Chui was telling his little story. Well, I guess it'd make sense to pack some lunch...

No longer in danger...? I hope so for his sake, 'cause I don't trust Chui one bit. Maybe due to watching the Lion King so much as a kid and seeing how a usurper handled things. =P

Aye, Scar. He drove the Pridelands to poop. I expect the same of Chui. Perhaps not magical enough to screw up the weather like Scar did, but not a good occupant all the same.

Poor Kafil, he's gonna have to pay the price, isn't he? But if I was Abasi, I would be careful. He maybe the strong leader, but when he's starts beating on a younger zebra, you wont know when he's gonna snap and fight back. And when he does, oh boy, he'd better watch his back (just saying)!

AMAZINGLY drawn and highly emotional, Arven! ^^
Bibi's face tells us a lot on how much she had feared Chui would kill her...the glimpse we have t old Nadira comforting her wounded son is heartbreaking...and oh my...Abasi isn't pleased at all with Kafil's latter behavior! o.o
A fight may be coming soon!...
EXCELLENT PAGE, outstanding anatomy, expressions, and coloring!
Beautiful art, as always...I can't wait to know what will happen to Africa, Mosi and Binti now!... o.o

It is true that Kafil wasn't paying so much atenttion to his "warden duty" but even if he had been doing it, there was a lot of fog too. It's not easy to tell if the lost of Paa's honr could have been avoided. Africa was difficult to see and if I remember correctly, she appeared behind Paa and Kafil was at that moment giving his back to Paa. A zebra has only two eyes.

Moral of a Fable: Kafil, pay attention to your duty so Abasi can blame the foggy cirmcunstances, not your lazyness.
