But I loved, LOVED making this. I made this picture with the sole purpose of practicing lighting and colour palettes. Then it turned into a cover. Deal with it.
Yes guys, the moment is drawing close. The comic should actually come sometime soon. As soon as I've got enough time to keep two comics at once AND do my exams.
Q:Arven! Arven! When is the comic going to start? A: Please refer to my FAQ section, question 4-8.). Thank you!
Soooo. This is Africa (left) and Chui (right) with the typical African background behind them. One would probably expect them to be about to kiss or something, but... judging on their expressions, I wouldn't be surprised if they clawed each other's eyes out any moment. NO, just because they're female and male respectively, and they're rivals doesn't mean that they'll become mates in the end. They actually, SERIOUSLY hate each other. No excuses
Coloured pencils on A4 paper Characters and art (c)
It over all is very impressive. The emotion of the conflict between these two characters is obvious and strong. I also love how you made Chui's design sharp and anglely(Is that even a WORD?) The highlights and detail is very impressive, since I know how hard it is to color with such perfect value. In fact, there are very few places I could even tell that you used color pencil. One thing I did notice was the rays coming from the tree, maybe you should put a few more rays just to make it look more natural, I'm not really sure, it just doesn't look completely natural. another place you could make look a little better would be the cheeks of both characters and the neck of Africa, if you look closely it looks a little sloppy, but from a distance it looks fine. One thing you could do to make the colors blend even smoother is to run over the drawing with white. This works fine but one problem you may find would be either you would need to make the characters darker or completely change the color design. Another thing you could do is, like smudging, you could just rub the drawing with your finger. These are just sugestions, but I hope this helps. I love Chakra, and I can't wait to see this series!
Vision: This is phenomenal! The shading you have done on this is just fantastic ARVEN! I cannot even tell you how amazing the lighting on the muzzles look on Africa and Chui, the way the light fades out the lines of the faces and how it shines off their pelts as they stand face-to-face with each other! The way you colored the eyes is wonderful! The mix between the green and gold in Africa's eyes blend so well and make a wonderful combination! And Chui's eyes, although look one solid color in a thumbnail, you showed a variety of shades of gold and orange in the eye. I just love your shading technique and the anatomy is wondrous! And although they are in the usual "African Savannah" background, it has a HUGE impact on the rest of the picture! The shadow of the tree that extends to the paws (hopefully XD) of the two rivals just adds to the great vision of the cover piece! ^^
Originality: This is the only thing that would change in my eyes. As seen, I did not give it a full five stars, but for good reason. In very many movie covers and book covers you see the main protagonist and the main antagonist facing of real close together in the cover. Although the characters are original, the positions are not.
Technique: You know your technique is great! Your drawings, whether a comic page, a random picture, or a commission/gift/etc for a friend, everyone can always tell what you have drawn. Your "style" of drawing is unique in your own way and is what helps others see what you have done. Your technique in drawings is always flawless and get down to the point in every detail to express what the picture means without (or close to) any explanation!
Impact: Overall this may have started out a practice for shading, has turned into a great piece that, in my own opinion, would make a fantastic official cover for the story, and maybe you should have a vote? If you make another picture for the cover and upload it, you could have people vote upon the original(first) Africa cover, this cover, and the one you'd make. But the impact in this picture is beautiful, the scene is fantastic, and the meaning is gorgeous!
Now after typing this for 27 minutes, my hands are tired XDD I can't wait for the first pages to come! ^^
well if Chui and Africa will not end up as mates at least will they get to work togeter rather than against each other??mates think was a really cool thing you know?I mean from biggest enemies to lovers that is someting...and by the way if it was the this song would fit perfectly= P!nk-True love
That's an interesting proposal, but I don't see it happening anytime soon sadly XD Africa and Chui really, honestly, hate each other, there wouldn't be a single reason for which they would work together
This is easily my favorite cover of all of the Africa covers. Not only does it feature the two main characters, but it is incredible in detail, in expression, lighting, background, anatomy...it is just all good. This is one great cover
I'm still stunned how your TRADITIONAL work looks like (very clear and pretty). Why did you choose traditional way of making works? you know, majority of people on dA draw digitally, one from laziness, two from quicker effects.
Well, to be honest, I really suck at drawing digitally XD I do have Photoshop on my PC, but I really fail to understand how most of its functions work, and now I solely use it to add the speech bubbles to my pages.
I began using pencils because it was the most simple and straightforward approach to colouring for me at the time, and I've always preferred its simplicity to the digital media's (apparent) difficulties
Gradually, I was able to discover some neat tricks to render some effects traditionally (like the glow, or the water or starry night effects), so I further confirmed traditional as my medium, since I no longer needed digitally obtained effects
by the way watch this [link] to see what a fall tree is. Make sure to watch until the end to see the recipe Im actually making a wiki post right now about all the different recipes at the end of the show
